Wildlife dept staff recaptures lioness on the loose

KASUR: Punjab wild life department staffers from Lahore finally captured the lioness that had escaped from a breeding farm on Ganda Singh Road while she was being shifted from one cage to another on the night between Thursday and Friday.

After escaping from the breeding farm, the lioness had entered an adjoining poultry farm and hid herself on the premises.

A wave of fear gripped the residents of nearby villages as the news of the beast escape spread in the area.

According to a wildlife official, Punjab wildlife conservation minister Mr Samsam Bukhari took notice of the incident and ordered the department to take action.

Earlier, local Rescue 1122 and wildlife team had failed to capture the lioness on Thursday night for want of skilled staff and necessary equipment.

The official said that on the minister’s orders a team, including wildlife shooters equipped with tranquilising dot injections and experts, reached the poultry farm near Maan village and found the big cat hiding herself in a corner there.

The team evacuated the poultry farm staff before launching the operation to capture the beast.

According to one of the rescuers, the lioness had been kept in captivity since her birth by her owner and after escaping from the breeding farm got scared.

Finally the shooters tranqulised the big cat and put her back into the cage at the breeding farm.
