PPP questions announcement of GB’s interim provincial status

ISLAMABAD: The PPP on Tuesday questioned Prime Minister Imran Khan’s announcement giving Gilgit-Baltistan interim status of a parovince, saying this was given in 2009, by the PPP government in the centre.

At a press conference, PPP Information Secretary Dr Nafisa Shah said her party’s ties to the people of GB go back three generations.

She added the decision to attend the meeting of parliamentary party leaders chaired by the National Assembly speaker will be made by the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).

National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser has called a meeting for upper and lower house parliamentary leaders to discuss national security issues, and the parliamentarians are expected to be briefed by the civilian and military leadership.

She said the PPP chairman has set the agenda of the election in GB.

“We are contesting elections in GB to deliver rights to the people of GB. We will give GB the right to rule, right to property and right to employment,” she said.

Dr Shah said that Pakistan National Airlines has been on 90-days notice and if action is not taken now the airspace will be occupied by others.

She said PDM was formed through the efforts and initiative of the PPP chairman, and he would continue to play a vital role in the movement.

Palwasha Khan said the prime minister was not invited to the parliamentary leaders meeting.

“The security establishment also thinks that the sick prime minister might say some gibberish, totally irrelevant from any stage and platform, so he was not invited,” she claimed.

She added: “The ‘selected’ prime minister is not invited in any important meeting because he is mentally unstable.”

“PTI ministers are contaminating the atmosphere in GB by using foul language. These ministers have gone so low that they are even badmouthing women,” she said.

Ms Khan also asked why PTI leader Jahangir Tareen was not arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on his return to Pakistan despite the sugar scam allegations.

“Jahangir Tareen was neither arrested nor taken in custody by NAB on his return to the country. This shows clearly the duality of accountability under Imran Khan’s rule,” she said.
