1-year-old girl dies after Forney shooting that may have been accidental, officials say

A 1-year-old girl has died after a shooting in Forney that also left her brother wounded, officials said.

Authorities were called about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday to a home in the 2100 block of Juniper Drive, in the Windmill Farms subdivision near Reeder Road, where a possibly accidental shooting had been reported, according to Investigator Jolie Stewart, a Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.

The 1-year-old had been struck in the head, and a second injury to a child was reported.

The girl died, Stewart said Tuesday evening. Her name has not been released.

The girl’s 9-year-old brother was taken to a Dallas hospital with injuries that weren’t believed to be life-threatening.

Two other minors were in the home at the time of the incident, Stewart said. One of them was a neighbor.

Authorities are continuing to gather evidence and investigate the shooting.
