Officers were called Saturday morning to the 1600 block of Eastridge Court, where they found Martinez wounded. He was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth and pronounced dead.

The Tarrant County medical examiner’s office determined that he had been shot in the back.

Hurst police said their investigation led them to Hamilton, who lives less than half a mile from where officers found Martinez, on Saturday. It was unclear why he was not arrested until Wednesday.

He was being held in the Hurst jail Wednesday night, and it was unclear whether he had an attorney.
