Presumptive Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan involved in minor plane crash

Dade Phelan, the next speaker of the Texas House, was involved in a minor plane crash Wednesday at Angelina County Airport, just south of Lufkin, but nobody was seriously injured.

As first reported by KTRE in Lufkin, the brakes went out as the plane tried to land, resulting in a crash at the end of the runway, according to airport manager Gary Letney.

The office of State Rep. Trent Ashby, a Republican from Lufkin, confirmed to KTRE that Phelan was one of the two passengers on the plane and was en route to meet with him. While the pilot suffered minor injuries, KTRE reported that they were walking around the scene following the crash.

“Everyone on the plane is safe and we’re grateful for that,” Ashby’s office said in a statement to KTRE.
