Karachi’s sports glory to be revived: Iftikhar Shallwani

KARACHI: The city of Karachi has always produced legendary sports players and athletes and all steps are being taken to revive the sports glory of the metropolis.

This was stated by Administrator-Commiss­ioner Karachi Iftikhar Shallwani in a reception held for great sports personalities by Conclave Hockey Association at a local hotel on Friday.

Shallwani said after a long time, the encroached and destroyed play grounds of the city have been renovated and revived for full sports activity and this trend will continue under the present Sindh government led by CM Murad Ali Shah.

“An international marathon race has already been planned for January, depending on the Covid-19 situation.

I will also announce the opening of tennis courts at the historic Frere Hall while the KMC Sports Complex is once again been renovated to hold a number of sports activities,” said Shallwani while addressing a fine gathering.

Legendary all-rounder Wasim Akram, sports patron Junaid Ali Shah, awards organiser Sameer Shamsi, mountaineer Samina Baig also spoke on the occasion.

Awards were presented to Pakistan’s star players and legends including former captain Wasim Bari, prolific batsman Shoaib Mohammad, hockey great Samiullah, karate prodigy Kulsoom Hazara, brilliant tennis player Nameer Shamsi and KBBA chief Ghulam Mohammad for their fine services to sports.
