$75,000 reward offered in September slaying of security officer in west Oak Cliff

Crime Stoppers is now offering a $75,000 reward in the fatal shooting of a security officer outside a west Oak Cliff credit union in September.

Dallas police announced the increased reward Tuesday for information that could lead to the arrest of the killer of 28-year-old Jose Montes, who was fatally shot in broad daylight while servicing an ATM the morning of Sept. 14.

Montes was approached by someone wearing a black jacket with the word “Police” written on the back. The gunman demanded property from Montes before shooting him with a rifle, police said.

Witnesses reported seeing the gunman carrying duffel bags out of an armored vehicle before fleeing the scene of the shooting in a white Volkswagen Passat. Police have said the shooter is male and the driver was female, but no more detailed description has been released.

Montes later died at a hospital, leaving behind a wife and young son.
