DeSoto librarians create online holiday reading room

The coronavirus pandemic has prompted businesses, sports teams and schools across the country to adjust. For DeSoto ISD librarians, that has meant meeting students where they are: online.

Librarians have created the “Countdown to Christmas” virtual reading room for students and the community to enjoy holiday stories.

“We are always looking for new ways to share books and other resources with our students that will encourage them to continue to read,” DeSoto ISD Librarian Diana Frazier said in a news release.

The virtual room is decorated with animated, holiday-themed décor. Families can choose from over 20 stories read aloud by various DeSoto ISD leaders and staff along with members of the public library and community.

“The main goal of this project is to promote literacy on an interface that will entice students to participate,” Frazier said. “This is our opportunity to model for students and show them the importance of reading.”
