Authorities said Friday that they had obtained a murder warrant for Jonathan Deon Middleton, 22, in connection with the slaying of 21-year-old Cozie Mathis. He was booked into the Dallas County jail late Sunday, jail records show.

Officers were called about 3 a.m. Oct. 30 to the 2400 block of Wildoak Drive, near Ferguson and Highland roads, where they found Mathis wounded. He died at a hospital the next day.

Police did not say how they linked Middleton to the case.

He remained in custody Wednesday, with bail set at $500,000. His attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.
