Arlington police tweeted Thursday afternoon that the man is under arrest for first-degree felony aggravated assault and that he refused to come out of his home, prompting SWAT teams to respond to the home. The standoff ended peacefully at 6:45 p.m. after the man surrendered, police said.

Police responded to a call about 9 a.m. Thursday at a home in the 2200 block of Brigadoon Court after a man reportedly fired a single shot at his neighbor, police said.

Police said they believe the neighbor was in his car and found an injured dog on the road. The man, who was not identified by police, thought the neighbor had run over the man’s dog, police said.

The man became upset and fired one round at the neighbor’s car, striking the front windshield and narrowly missing the neighbor’s head, police said. The neighbor was not injured.

The neighbor drove away and called authorities, police said.
