Grapevine-Colleyville ISD reports 94 active cases of the coronavirus

Grapevine-Colleyville ISD is keeping families updated on district coronavirus case numbers through an online chart that breaks down the case numbers by campus, showing the number of active cases. Positive cases remain counted in the dashboard for 10 days, the district had previously had these cases remain on the list for 14 days.

As of Dec. 16, the district reported 29 confirmed COVID-19 cases among staff members and 65 among students, a total of 94 active cases.

Tarrant County has 33,354 active cases of COVID-19 as of Dec. 17.

The district is reporting COVID-19 cases from staff and from students who are learning both in-person and remotely. For a look at the percentage of case numbers compared to the number of students and staff, visit the district’s website.

GCISD’s Health Services team contacts students and staff who have been test-confirmed or exposed to the coronavirus. If someone has been test-confirmed for COVID-19, they will be contacted by Health Services before they return to ensure that it is safe to come back to school. It is possible that, if someone is exhibiting new symptoms or still feeling sick, they will be asked to isolate for longer than 10 days.

Similarly, if a student or staff member was deemed to come in close contact with or test-confirmed case, they will be directly notified and given written instruction on self-quarantine protocols, according to the district’s website. There is a chart online that shows the number of close contacts from a particular exposure, and how many of those close contacts later tested positive for the coronavirus.

As of Thursday, there are 59 staff members and 353 students in quarantine because they were deemed to be close contacts of others with test-confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Students were able to return to campus on Sept. 8 if they chose in-person learning for the first nine-week grading period. The second nine-week grading period began Oct. 19, and families were able to switch learning styles for the next nine-weeks. Families can switch from in-person learning to remote learning at any time.
