Abbas leads Pakistan Shaheens’ fight back in tour match

WHANGAREI (New Zealand): Seamer Mohammad Abbas led a good comeback by Pakistan Shaheens with a four-for as New Zealand ‘A’ were dismissed for 226 in their first innings on second day of their four-day fixture at the Cobham Oval here on Friday.

Abbas was well supported by pace-bowling all-rounder Amad Butt and leg-spinner Yasir Shah who both captured three wickets apiece.

Resuming their first innings on 23 for one in response to Pakistan Shaheens’ first-innings tally of 194, New Zealand ‘A’ owed their lead of 32 runs to opener Rachin Ravindra who was the top-scorer with 70 off 158 balls, hitting eight fours and a six.

Wicket-keeper Cam Fletcher contributed a 108-ball 57, which included six fours and a six. Both Ravindra and Fletcher fell to Abbas who ended-up with figures of four for 40.

Amad dismissed Ken McClure (24), Joe Carter (1) and New Zealand ‘A’ skipper Michael Bracewell (0) in taking 3-22.

Yasir grabbed three wickets for 54 in 17 overs.

At stumps, Pakistan Shaheens were 15 for one in their second innings with Abid Ali dismissed for one by paceman Ed Nuttall, who had rocked the Pakistan Shaheens on Thursday with 5-54. The visitors still trail by 17 runs going into Saturday’s day three with Shan Masood (10) and Azhar Ali (2) at the crease.
