Seifert stars as Northern Districts down Pakistan Shaheens

HAMILTON: Tim Seifert struck a scintillating unbeaten 99 as Northern Districts upstaged the touring Pakistan Shaheens by 21 runs in the first Twenty20 match at Seddon Park on Sunday.

Put into bat by Shaheens skipper Rohail Nazir, Northern Districts posted 203-2, thanks to New Zealand international Seifert’s brilliant 55-ball innings that included six fours and as many sixes.

Northern’s skipper Anton Devcich made a fiery 38 off 16 balls with the help of five fours and two sixes and Katene Clarke scored 40 runs off 30 balls.

Shaheens, in reply, managed only 182-9 despite a blistering opening start of 85 by Haider Ali and Zeeshan Malik.

Haider scored a brisk 51 off 26 balls, with the help of five fours and three sixes, while Zeeshan made a 33-ball 52 with the help of five boundaries and a brace of sixes.

Rohail was dismissed after scoring 20 off 15 balls but at the backend of the innings, Hussain Talat (4), Iftikhar Ahmed (8), Khushdil Shah (25) couldn’t able to keep up the momentum in the chase.

Josh Brown (3-22) and Brett Hampton (2-11) were the main wicket-takers for the home side.

Shaheens will next play Wellington Firebirds at the Basin Reserve on Tuesday.
