3 arrested after New Year’s Eve shooting incident at Arlington apartments

Three men were arrested after a shooting incident Thursday night at an apartment complex in Arlington.

Just before 7 p.m. Thursday, Arlington police responded to a shooting call at Arlington Memorial Hospital, where they learned a woman came to the hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound, police said.

Police said they determined the shooting happened at Las Lomas Apartments, in the 800 block of Timberlake Drive, and went to the apartment complex to investigate.

While security guards at the apartments helped Arlington police check surveillance footage, they heard several gunshots near the leasing office, police said.

When the security guards and police went to investigate the gunshots, a guard sustained a minor injury after being struck by a round, according to police. The security guards and a police officer discharged their weapons, and it is unclear whether any of those rounds struck the suspects, according to police.

Police said the suspects fled in a white Cadillac XTS. After locating the vehicle, police tried to make a traffic stop but the driver continued driving, according to police. The vehicle later stopped in the 2900 block of Bahar Drive, about half a mile from the apartment complex.

The suspects were detained and later identified as Arlington residents: Felix Barrientos, 31; Juan Magallanes, 28; and David Garcia, 24.

After investigating, it was determined that Barrientos, Magallanes, and Garcia were involved in the shooting at Las Lomas Apartments, and police said it is believed the three men were there to fire celebratory gunshots because of the holiday.

Barrientos, who police said was driving the vehicle, was charged with one count of fleeing a police officer.

Magallanes — who had two active misdemeanor warrants from Haltom City — was charged with one count of discharging a firearm in certain municipalities.

Garcia — who had an outstanding warrant for a traffic infraction — was also charged with one count of discharging a firearm in certain municipalities.

A fourth person may have been with the three men at the time of the shooting, and could have the firearm that was used, police said.

It is unclear whether the three men were responsible for the woman’s gunshot wound.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact Detective Julia Hall at 817-459-5325.
