Texas Motor Speedway may become one of the largest COVID-19 vaccination sites in North Texas

Texas Motor Speedway is set to become one of the region’s largest vaccination sites next week, according to speedway officials.

The drive-through mega site will open Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 8 a.m., said David Hart, vice president of communications for the speedway. Texas Motor Speedway was in talks late Friday with Denton County to work out further details.

“It’s something we’re working on with Denton County as we speak,” Hart said. “Final logistics are being determined in meetings over the weekend.”

The agreement will help the county, which is due to receive more than 32,000 vaccine doses, Denton County Judge Andy Eads told KTVT-TV (Channel 11) Thursday. That number is triple the amount the county received this week.

“We’re looking to mobilize our great partners out at Texas Motor Speedway so we can have one of the largest mega sites in all of DFW,” Eads said to the news station. “For right now, I think the large hub approach really is the best one, and I think the state of Texas agrees.”
