80-year-old Arlington man likely killed in hit-and-run while checking the mail, police say

An 80-year-old Arlington man was likely killed Saturday in a hit-and-run crash after he went outside to check the mail, police say.

Officers were called around 4:30 p.m. to the 900 block of East Timberview Lane about a pedestrian in the roadway and found the man in the street, police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and had injuries consistent with being hit by a car, police said. He has not been identified.

The man’s wife said he had walked outside to check the mail and didn’t come back. She looked out the window 10 to 15 minutes later and saw officers and emergency responders a few homes down from where they lived, police said.

Investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the man was hit by his mailbox outside his home and dragged a few houses down, police said. Neighbors have been asked to check their home surveillance cameras for any footage of the accident, police said.

Anyone with information about the incident may contact crash investigator Joe Shipp at 817-575-8602, or submit tips anonymously to Tarrant County Crime Stoppers at 817-469-TIPS (8477).
