11-year-old boy wounded in drive-by shooting in South Dallas

An 11-year-old boy was wounded early Friday in a drive-by shooting in South Dallas.

Police were called just after 12:30 a.m. to the 3200 block of Carpenter Avenue, near South Second Avenue, where multiple houses had been struck by gunfire.

The boy, whose name was not released, was asleep in a front bedroom and was hit in the foot. He was taken to a hospital with injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening.

The boy’s grandmother Linda Hersi told WFAA-TV (Channel 8) that she didn’t understand why someone would shoot up the house.

“Why would someone just come up here and shoot in the house and could have killed me and my grandson? For nothing!” she said.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
