21-year-old man arrested in shooting death of 18-year-old, Dallas police say

A 21-year-old man is facing a murder charge in the shooting death of an 18-year-old man, Dallas police said.

Markelen Jerrel Chance was arrested early Wednesday in the slaying of Tremond Spencer Tuesday night, police said.

Officers responded to a shooting call about 9:30 p.m. in the 4000 block of Preferred Place in the Red Bird area and found Spencer in the parking lot of an apartment complex with gunshot wounds, police said.

Spencer was taken to a hospital and later died.

An investigation by the homicide department led to Chance’s arrest. Police did not say what led them to name Chance as the suspect.

He is being held at the Dallas County jail on a $250,000 bond.
