Fort Worth police officer fired following arrest on theft charge, department says

A Fort Worth police officer was fired Wednesday after violating the department’s general orders, the third such termination to happen this week.

Officer Scott Smith was fired after he was arrested for being suspected in a theft that happened in Crowley on Dec. 14, the department said. Smith was arrested Dec. 18 on a class B misdemeanor charge.

Details of the incident were not released by police.

Following an investigation, Chief Neil Noakes determined that Smith was in violation of general orders when he was arrested.

Smith is the third officer this week to be terminated this week by the department. Earlier Wednesday, a police lieutenant was fired after he was arrested on suspicion of driving drunk in December. On Tuesday a Fort Worth police officer was terminated because of “racially insensitive and inappropriate” posts on his social media.
