Juvenile in custody in fatal Bedford shooting of 17-year-old girl who was buying vape cartridges

A juvenile is in custody in connection with the August slaying of a 17-year-old girl who was buying THC vape cartridges in Bedford.

Bedford police said Thursday that they and U.S. marshals took the suspect into custody Wednesday in Groesbeck, about 40 miles east of Waco, on a capital murder charge. His name was not released because of his age.

Police said Madison Fisher-Brenes and a friend had gone to the parking lot of the CVS pharmacy in the 600 block of North Industrial Boulevard the evening of Aug. 1 to buy vape cartridges.

After the suspect got in the vehicle with them, police said, an argument broke out and the suspect shot Fisher-Brenes in the torso. She was taken to a hospital, where she died.

The suspect was being held Thursday in juvenile detention in Tarrant County. Authorities did not say how they tracked him down.
