20 people displaced from their homes after fire breaks out at northeast Dallas apartment complex

About 20 people were displaced from their homes after a fire broke out at a northeast Dallas apartment complex Saturday afternoon.

Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a call about a fire at 3:17 p.m. at the LaVita on Lovers Lane Apartments at 6603 East Lovers Lane, near Abrams Road.

About 70 firefighters worked to put out the fire in the two-story apartment building, said Jason Evans, a spokesman for the department. It was extinguished around 5 p.m.

No injuries were reported, Evans said.

He said seen of the eight units affected by the fire were damaged by different combinations of fire, smoke and water.

The property is working to put residents in vacant units within the complex, and the American Red Cross is helping determine the needs of any other displaced residents, Evans said.

The cause of the fire is still being determined, Evans said.
