Here are the North Texas cities that have boil water notices and where you can get water for free

Many residents across North Texas are under orders from their cities to boil or conserve water after this week’s record-setting low temperatures froze equipment and caused power outages that knocked treatment and pumping facilities offline.

Residents are told to boil water or use bottled water for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth and washing hands, as well as for their pets.

“The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes” before cooling, said officials in Fort Worth, where residents in western parts of the city were under the notice, but Fort Worth Water customers in the northern areas were told to resume using their water Friday.

The city said the water in your pipes is safe, and there is no need to “flush the lines” or run additional water through your pipes.

If you live in a surrounding city, officials said to seek direction from your utility on when your notice is lifted. Cities will update their websites and notify residents when their water is safe to consume.

Children, elderly people and people with weakened immune systems are especially vulnerable to harmful bacteria that may be in untreated water, according to the city.

Here’s the water status in affected cities, as well as a list of places to get free water.
