Southbound lanes of Dallas North Tollway reopens after semitrailer crashes, burst into flames

The southbound lanes of Dallas North Tollway reopened Sunday after a semitrailer struck a safety barrier and burst into flames, causing road closures.

The crash was cleared shortly after 8:30 p.m., according to the North Texas Tollway Authority.

The truck was traveling south about noon on the tollway when its driver lost control and struck a crash attenuator near Interstate 635, a Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman said.

The semitrailer, loaded with ceramic tiles, caught fire after its fuel tank ruptured. Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said a hazardous-materials team had been sent to off-load the truck’s diesel tanks.

Evans said the fire was extinguished shortly after firefighters arrived. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Three people who escaped the truck were taken to a nearby hospital, officials said. Details about their injuries were not available.

It was unclear what led to the crash.
