2 in custody after police chase from Grand Prairie to Dallas ends in fatal crash

Two people are in custody after a police chase from Grand Prairie to Dallas ended in a fatal crash early Friday.

Grand Prairie police said officers tried to stop a stolen pickup about 2 a.m. Friday near East Pioneer Parkway and South Belt Line Road, but the driver fled.

Police pursued the pickup into Dallas, and the chase ended nearly 20 miles later when the driver ran a red light at Ross Avenue and North Peak Street in Old East Dallas, crashing into a sedan.

That car’s driver, whose identity was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pickup’s driver, 18-year-old Ramiro Sotelo of Balch Springs, was arrested on charges of murder, accident involving death, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, causing death. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.

A juvenile passenger in the pickup also was taken into custody, but police did not say on what charge or charges. Neither Sotelo nor the juvenile was injured.
