UT Arlington going ahead with in-person graduation ceremonies at Globe Life Field

Globe Life Field is set to host in-person commencement ceremonies for all 2020 and spring 2021 University of Texas at Arlington graduates in May.

This will be the university’s first commencement ceremony since fall 2019, after it postponed all 2020 ceremonies due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a university news release.

Graduating students will have the choice to attend graduation virtually or in-person at Globe Life Field from May 13 to 16. Face coverings will be required for in-person ceremonies and social distancing will be achieved by spreading everyone out in the large stadium, according to the university.

Interim President Teik C. Lim and Vice President for Student Affairs Lisa Nagy said in a joint statement that the university will continue to monitor health guidelines and that plans remain flexible to prioritize student and staff health.

Virtual ceremonies will be held concurrently with in-person festivities. Graduating students have until March 17 to let the university know how they will be attending commencement.

There are about 20,000 students invited to spring commencement ceremonies, 14,000 from the class of 2020 and 6,000 from the class of spring 2021.
