Vaccination of people aged 50 plus after four weeks

LAHORE: Punjab Relief Commissioner Babar Hayat Tarar said on Friday that Covid-19 vaccination of the people 50 and above would start after four to five weeks.

“At present, the government’s top priority is to vaccinate all those aged 60 and above. Till to date, over 45,000 elderly people have been vaccinated at the Expo Centre in Johar Town which is not only the largest one in Pakistan but also in the world,” Mr Tarar, who also heads the provincial disaster management authority, told reporters after he visited the Expo Centre vaccination point.

He said since various investigations, studies and researches were underway, soon a single-shot vaccine would be developed. He said funds for vaccination were being provided by the PDMA which is coordinating the vaccination arrangements with commissioners, deputy commissioners, civil defence, Rescue 1122 and other departments.

Commissioner Zulifqar Ghumman said the people (aged 50 and above) planning international travel get them vaccinated through private facilities.

He said the government would soon establish new vaccination centres at Greater Iqbal Park (Minar-i-Pakistan), Punjab Kidney and Liver Transplant Hospital/Institute and some other places so as to vaccinate the people aged 50 and above.

LWMC: Participants at a special meeting were unanimous to immediately start procurement of over 6,000 waste containers to be placed at several locations of the city.

They directed the LWMC management to clear the backlog in three days. In order to ensure the best cleanliness arrangements in the city, they suggested the launch of the clean Lahore volunteers programme, Internship programme, setting up of the Research and Development Wing as well as raising awareness among masses through community mobilisation programme.
