Man arrested after Wylie police say he stabbed another man, dog during break-in

A man was arrested early Friday after police say he broke into a Wylie home and stabbed a resident and a dog.

Officers were called about 12:45 a.m. to a house in the 1500 block of Canyon Creek Road, where they found a 38-year-old man and a black Labrador retriever with multiple stab wounds.

The residents said they were awoken by their dog barking. The man went to investigate and encountered another man inside the home.

The two got into a physical confrontation and the intruder began attacking the resident with a knife, police said. The dog, whose name police did not release, was stabbed when it tried to help its owner.

The intruder ran from the home.

Police said they found 53-year-old Thong Pham hiding along a nearby creek. He was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and animal cruelty and was booked into the Wylie jail.

The injuries to the resident and the dog were not considered life-threatening.
