Warming up ahead of a strong cold front Wednesday

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A warm front will blow through Houston early Tuesday morning, but we won’t have to wait long for a stronger cold front to bring back the chilly air and sunshine.

Temperatures will actually warm up overnight and push into the mid 60s by 7 a.m. You’ll notice extensive clouds and a touch of fog in the morning. A few showers and even a clap of thunder are possible Tuesday, but your chance of rain is only 30%. Temperatures will warm into the low 80s as a little sunshine breaks through the clouds in the afternoon. A stronger cold front will arrive Wednesday.

What can we expect with Wednesday’s cold front?
Wednesday is one of those days where you won’t need a jacket in the morning, but you’ll definitely want to take one with you. Temperatures will start off in the low-to-mid 70s, but after the front blows through around noon, the temperatures will dive into the 50s for much of the afternoon. There is a 40% chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms along the front and for several hours behind it. Drier air should blow in Wednesday night, ending the chance for rain and allowing temperatures to drop into the 40s.

When will this oak pollen go away?!
We are near peak pollen season, but we’ll need to give it another couple of weeks before we fully rid ourselves of local oak pollen issues. Oak pollen levels are verging on extreme, so a heavy rain would do a lot to help decrease the amount of the allergen that’s floating in the air. Our next chances to have some rain wash our pollen problems away comes Tuesday and Wednesday.

What is the outlook for Easter weekend?
Right now it looks great! The stronger cold front arriving Wednesday will bring some spectacular weather leading into Easter weekend. Good Friday should come with an abundance of sunshine, a chilly morning in the 40s, and a mild, sunny afternoon in the 70s. The Gulf breeze returns for the weekend, bringing back cloud and mild temps. We currently have a 20% chance for brief showers on Easter Sunday.

Are we done with freezes?
All our data says yes, and there are currently no freezes in our 10-day forecast. Go ahead and put those plants into the ground! Going back to the late 1800s, there are only 3 years we’ve had a freeze in April.
