Here’s when we could get some rain this week

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A big warmup is coming this week, but there are some opportunities for cooling showers and thunderstorms.

Tuesdays will be noticeably milder in the morning with lows in the mid 60s, and it will be noticeably stickier in the afternoon as high temperatures climb into the low 80s. Isolated rain showers are possible as Gulf moisture streams in on the strong south breeze, but most neighborhoods should stay dry.

When else could we get rain this week?
That’s a question we’re getting a lot as drought continues to build across the state. Wednesday will bring a 30% chance for showers as a weak cool front approaches. Thunderstorms are possible northeast of Houston around Lake Livingston. Unfortunately it looks like the front will stall far north of Houston, so we aren’t expecting much relief from the warmer temps. And those temps will really be on the rise with highs in the 80s throughout much of the week and we’ll even near 90 degrees by the end of the work week. Friday’s rain chances are now increasing as a front arrives with a better chance of pushing offshore. The chance for thunderstorms also looks better with this storm system. Some of that rain could linger into Saturday morning.

What else can we expect for the weekend ahead?
After the rain clears Saturday morning, it should be a mostly dry weekend. Humidity levels will drop behind the front Saturday and stay at a pleasant level through most of Sunday. Highs will still climb into the 80s with lows in the 60s. There is a chance some Houston-area neighborhoods could dip into the 50s around sunrise Sunday.

What are the oak pollen levels doing?
Good news – they are crashing back down to earth! We will still have to deal with spurts of oak pollen whenever the wind turns in from the north over the next couple of weeks, but locally we are past the peak of the dreaded season.
