Plano has had 16,786 confirmed coronavirus cases, a figure equal to 5.89% of the city’s population, according to Plano’s website. The most recent number of deaths reported is 35.

Collin County has had 71,862 confirmed cases and 793 fatalities. Collin County previously announced it will no longer post COVID-19 case data on its website. Counts of new and confirmed cases, recoveries and deaths are now listed by the Department of State Health Services at this link.

Due to multiple changes in reporting methods, there could be discrepancies in the figures.

State officials announced March 23 that any adult in Texas could receive the COVID-19 vaccine beginning March 29. The eligibility expansion would make the Lone Star State the largest in the country to open up shots to anyone.

Starting March 10, Texans were no longer required by the state to wear a face mask in public. Businesses can also open at full capacity, as part of a new order by Gov. Greg Abbott.

Collin County Judge Chris Hill has also rescinded the county’s COVID-19 disaster declaration.

“Despite the removal of restrictions, we strongly encourage our patrons to continue to wear a face mask when possible, stay six feet away from those not a part of the same household, and wash hands or use hand sanitizer frequently,” Plano spokesperson Steve Stoler said in an email. “City employees will continue to wear their face masks at all times, and will continue with enhanced cleaning protocols at all facilities.”

Vaccines against the coronavirus are being administered to select groups in North Texas, but beginning on March 29 all adults in Texas will be able to get the vaccine.

Collin County is advising residents who meet the criteria to be vaccinated in these early rounds of the state’s vaccination campaign to check the health department’s website for updates, including a link to an online registration page.

Plano also has a webpage dedicated to vaccine information.

The Department of State Health Services has posted information about when and where Texas residents can get a vaccine. For more information on the COVID-19 vaccine, go here.
