1 killed, 4 critically wounded in shooting at Bryan business; state trooper shot during pursuit

One person was dead and four were in critical condition Thursday afternoon after a shooting at a cabinet-making company in Bryan, and a state trooper was shot while pursuing the suspect.

Bryan police Chief Eric Buske said officers were called about 2:30 p.m. to the scene of a shooting at Kent Moore Cabinets in southwestern Bryan, about 90 miles northwest of Houston.

One person was pronounced dead at the business, Buske said. Four were taken to a hospital in critical condition, one person was hospitalized with a minor injury and a seventh person was hospitalized after apparently suffering an asthma attack.

The shooter had fled the scene by the time officers arrived. A suspect was taken into custody later in the afternoon in Bedias, about 25 miles east of Bryan.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said that a trooper was shot while pursuing the suspect and was in serious condition.

Authorities later identified the suspect as 27-year-old Larry Winston Bollin. He was booked into the Brazos County jail on a murder charge, with bail set at $1 million.

Buske said the person who witnesses identified as a suspect was an employee of the company. No motive has been determined.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives sent agents and dogs to the business, spokesman Deon Washington said. He described the scene as “a pretty rapidly evolving situation.

Bryan police said the city’s fire department and College Station police also were assisting with the investigation.

Gov. Greg Abbott said in a written statement that the swift response by law enforcement led to the suspect’s arrest.

“Cecelia and I are praying for the victims and their families and for the law enforcement officer injured while apprehending the suspect,” Abbott said.

Kent Moore, which is headquartered in Bryan, employs more than 600 people in Texas. The company makes custom cabinets and has several design centers across the state, including in Fort Worth and Frisco.
