Covid-19 cases, positivity rate rise in capital again

ISLAMABAD: An increase was seen in the number of Covid-19 cases and positivity rate in the capital on Saturday.

Officials of the capital administration said 729 more people contracted the virus compared to 674 on Friday.

During the last 24 hours, 7,888 tests were conducted, with the positivity rate climbing to 9.4pc compared to 7.7pc on Friday.

The number of active cases in the capital has reached 13,063.

The number of beds for Covid-19 patients in 15 hospitals has risen from 790 to 802 while ventilators had increased to 112 from 107.

The occupancy rate of beds has been calculated at 64.33pc and that of ventilators at 52.67pc.

Rawalpindi

The number of critical patients increased in the garrison city hospitals while six people died and 226 tested positive.

On the other hand, the district administration imposed smart lockdown in Lalazar and Maira Shams in Gujar Khan.

According to the breakdown of casualties, Sitara Bibi, 64, resident of Misrial Road, Attiya Asmat, 75, of Shahpur Road, Haji Fida Hussain, 67, from Sadiqabad, and Nargis Ali, 48, from Bank Colony died at the Rawalpindi Institute of Urology.

729 people infected in Islamabad in single day, six die in Rawalpindi

Shakoor Shah, 51, a resident of Pirwadhai, and Sabieun Nisa, 38, of Dhoke Matkyal, died at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences.

Officials said 58 of the new patients reported from the cantonment, 53 from Potohar Town and 59 from Rawal Town.

Moreover, 24 patients came from Gujar Khan, 14 from Taxila, four from Murree, one from Kallar Syedan, four from Kahuta, three from Islamabad, two from Chakwal and one each from Abbottabad, AJK, Gujrat, Peshawar and Rawalakot.

In Rawalpindi district, there are 3,438 active patients – 1,198 in hospitals and 2,246 in home isolation. As many as 642 patients are waiting for the results of their Covid-19 serology.

The officials said 28 of the new patients were admitted to Holy Family Hospital, 26 to Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), 132 were under treatment in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU) and 23 in Fauji Foundation Hospital (FFH).

There are 33 patients on ventilators, 111 on oxygen and 65 are stable.

Attock

Two persons died of coronavirus and 14 more tested positive in Attock district, taking the number of total confirmed patients to 1,698 on Saturday.

District focal person for Covid-19 Kashif Hussain said Javaid Iqbal, 55, a resident of Hazro, Zeenat Bibi, 60, a resident of Attock, succumbed to the virus on Saturday.

He said among the new cases, eight belonged to Attock, five to Hazro and one to Fatehjang. There are at present 319 active patients in the district out of which 314 are home isolated.

So far, 1,345 patients have recovered from the disease while 34 have died.
