Severe weather still possible in northern part of Dallas-Fort Worth area as storms move through region

Strong thunderstorms dumped rain and hail across the Dallas-Fort Worth area Friday afternoon, and the threat of severe weather remains for the northern parts of the region.

A severe thunderstorm watch that includes Denton County extends until midnight; the watch was allowed to expire for Dallas, Collin and Tarrant counties.

Wind gusts up to 70 mph and 2-inch hail are possible, the weather service said, and the storms may produce tornadoes.

A tornado warning was issued for northeastern Denton County at 6:45 p.m., and residents were urged to take cover. The warning was cancelled at 7:10 p.m. without any tornadoes being reported.

The weather this weekend is expected to be pleasant as a high-pressure system moves into the region.

High temperatures will reach the mid-70s on Saturday and the low 80s on Sunday; lows will be in the 50s Saturday night and the 60s Sunday night. No precipitation is in the weekend forecast.

More storms could move through North Texas from Tuesday to Thursday next week, according to the weather service.
