National Women’s Softball Championship to be held in June under floodlights

KARACHI: Chairman Sindh Softball Association (SSA) Syed Afzal Zaidi said on Saturday that due to the outbreak of Covid-19 major sports events in the world have been cancelled and softball activities in Pakistan have also been severely affected.

The 15th National Women’s Softball Championship has been cancelled due to the increased cases of the coronavirus. However, after the situation improves we will try to hold the National Championship by implementing full Covid-19 SOPs in Karachi in June this year under floodlights.

He expressed these views while addressing a Sindh Softball Association meeting. President SSA Syed Waseem Hashmi, Vice Presidents Pervaiz Ahmed Shaikh & Muhammad Nasir, General Secretary Zeeshan Merchant, Chairperson Women Wing Alia Ahmed, Finance Secretary Murad Hussain, and other officials attended the meeting.

Afzal said that Softball Federation of Pakistan (SFP) gave Sindh Softball Association the opportunity to host the 15th National Women’s Softball Championship, which is an expression of confidence in the Provincial Association.

“Events like these will prove to be very fruitful in the promotion and development of softball,” he said.”Such competitions will discover new talent and will create an atmosphere of healthy contests among the players at the national level but also will build an atmosphere of mutual harmony and brotherhood.”

He further said that we will try to organise this championship in the best way possible to make this event memorable and exemplary. Afzal added that Karachi is a cosmopolitan city of peace and harmony and the national championship being held here will send a positive image at the international forums.

President SSA Syed Waseem Hashmi said that women of this country are participating in sports alongside men just like in all aspects of life which is very heartening.

He directed Secretary Zeeshan Merchant to form an organising committee for the national championship as well as take all possible steps to provide facilities to the guest players participating in the event.
