54-year-old woman fatally shot after stunt drivers block intersection in Mountain Creek area, Dallas police say

Dallas police are looking for the person who fatally shot a woman Sunday night while stunt drivers blocked an intersection in the Mountain Creek area.

Officers responded to the shooting about 10:40 p.m. in the 4300 block of Duncanville Road, near West Ledbetter Drive. Witnesses said the drivers had blocked the streets before someone began firing a handgun.

It was unclear how many shots were fired.

Lynetta Washington, 54, was shot as she was walking down the street, police said. She died at the scene.

Deputy Chief Terrence Rhodes said at a news conference Monday afternoon that Washington, who lived nearby, was walking to her car and may have been struck by a stray bullet. Police do not believe she interacted with the street racers, Rhodes said.

Washington’s daughter Angel Durr urged whoever was shooting to turn themselves in to authorities.

“Just come forward,” Durr told KDFW-TV (Channel 4). “If it was an accident, say that. People make mistakes.”

Police have not released any suspect or vehicle information related to the case.

Anyone with information about the case may contact Detective Brian Tabor at 214-671-3605 or brian.tabor@dallascityhall.com and refer to case No. 071868-2021.

Crime Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest and indictment. Anonymous tips may be submitted at 214-373-8477.
