4-year-old girl dies after being mauled by family dog at Fort Worth home

A young girl died after being mauled by a family dog in South Fort Worth on Friday afternoon, police said.

Officers were called just after 5 p.m. to a home in the 1400 block of Oak Grove Road, near Interstate 20 and Campus Drive, where the attack had been reported in the backyard.

According to a police incident report, a 911 caller said the girl was not responsive. The child was taken to Cook Children’s Medical Center in critical condition, according to MedStar.

The girl died from her injuries about an hour later. The Tarrant County medical examiner’s office identified her as 4-year-old Elayah Brown.

The responsible dog was taken into custody by Fort Worth Animal Care & Control, police said.

“Anytime there is a loss of life, it’s a tragic incident,” police Chief Neil Noakes said in a written statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and all first responders that responded to this call.”
