Sunny Friday, rain chance returns for Mother’s Day

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — We’ll get to enjoy one more day of sunshine and low humidity before the Gulf breeze brings back clouds and rain chances for Mother’s Day weekend.

Friday morning temperatures will start out in the low 60s under a clear sky. You’ll notice dew on the ground around sunrise, but it will quickly evaporate once the sun rises and the humidity drops. Temperatures will soar to near 90 in the afternoon, but the humidity will still be at a tolerable level. The Gulf breeze will bring back a few clouds late in the day, and it should be a generally pleasant evening.

What’s the outlook for Mother’s Day weekend?
A strong Gulf breeze will bring back the clouds, humidity, and a small chance for showers and thunderstorms. Moisture returning Saturday will give us a 20% chance for rain. On Mother’s Day the rain chance climbs up to 30%, but it looks like we’ll only get a few showers. Stronger thunderstorms developing along a front in North Texas could roll into our northern counties Sunday evening. Saturday morning’s lows will dip into the mid 60s with highs in the mid 80s. It will be even stickier on Mother’s Day with lows in the mid 70s and highs near 90. Both days will be breezy with south winds at 15-25 mph.

How long will the rain chance stick around?
We have rain chances in the forecast through Wednesday of next week. An unsettled weather pattern will develop as the front blowing through Texas on Mother’s Day stalls out near I-10 for Monday and Tuesday. Then on Wednesday the front will get another push south into the Gulf, bringing a final wave of showers and thunderstorms before we dry out and enjoy a few more days of lower humidity.
