Texas adds 1,416 coronavirus cases, 19 deaths; Tarrant County reports 122 cases, 4 deaths

Across the state, 1,416 more COVID-19 cases were reported Sunday, including 1,358 new ones and 58 older ones that were recently added by labs.

The state also reported 19 COVID-19 deaths, raising its toll to 49,591.

The state’s case total is now 2,905,110, including 2,486,826 confirmed and 418,284 probable ones

There are 2,399 COVID-19 patients in Texas hospitals, including 496 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. On Saturday, 3.1% of patients in the hospital region covering the Dallas-Fort Worth area were COVID-19 patients — below the 15% threshold the state has used to define high hospitalizations.

The seven-day average positivity rate statewide for molecular tests, based on the date of test specimen collection, was 4.3% as of Saturday. For antigen tests, the positivity rate for the same period was 2.6%. A molecular test is considered more accurate and is sometimes called a PCR test; an antigen test is also called a rapid test. Gov. Greg Abbott has said a positivity rate above 10% is cause for concern.

According to the state, 11,447,408 people in Texas have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 8,709,410 — 38.8% of the state’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Tarrant County reported four deaths and 122 cases Sunday.

The victims were a woman in her 50s from Fort Worth, a woman in her 60s from Arlington, a man in his 70s from Mansfield and a man in his 80s who lived in Sansom Park. All had underlying high-risk health conditions.

Of the new cases, 87 were confirmed and 35 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s case total to 258,237, including 216,673 confirmed and 41,564 probable. The death toll is 3,454.

According to the county, 164 people were hospitalized with the virus Friday.

According to the state, 780,033 people in Tarrant County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 609,795 — 37.7% of the county’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Dallas County

Dallas County officials no longer report new coronavirus data on Sundays. Figures that previously would have been reported Sunday will be released Monday.

As of Saturday, the county’s overall case total was 300,439 — 258,609 confirmed and 41,830 probable. The death toll was 3,928.

County Judge Clay Jenkins said Saturday that the last week was the least deadly of the year for COVID-19.

The average number of new daily cases in the county for the last two weeks is 223. For the previous 14-day period, the average was 242.

According to the state’s data, 1,033,145 people in Dallas County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 779,707 — 38.4% of the county’s population 16 and older — are fully immunized.

Collin County

The state added 104 cases but no new deaths to Collin County’s totals Sunday.

Of the new cases, 65 were confirmed and 39 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s case total to 90,548, including 74,457 confirmed and 16,091 probable. The death toll is 829.

According to the county, 75 people were hospitalized with the virus Friday.

According to the state, 486,454 people in Collin County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 385,955 — 48.1% of the county’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Denton County

Denton County officials no longer report new coronavirus data on Sundays.

As of Friday, the county had reported 74,882 coronavirus cases — 55,080 confirmed and 19,802 probable. The death toll was 495.

According to the county, 35 people were hospitalized with the virus.

According to the state, 381,984 people in Denton County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 302,954 — 43.4% of the county’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Other counties

The Texas Department of State Health Services has taken over reporting for these other North Texas counties. In some counties, new data may not be reported every day.

The latest numbers are:

  • Rockwall County: 11,513 cases (9,281 confirmed and 2,232 probable), 153 deaths.
  • Kaufman County: 16,042 cases (13,377 confirmed and 2,665 probable), 256 deaths.
  • Ellis County: 22,765 cases (18,901 confirmed and 3,864 probable), 310 deaths.
  • Johnson County: 19,779 cases (16,778 confirmed and 3,001 probable), 367 deaths.
