Dallas police arrest 34-year-old man they say killed his mother

Dallas police have arrested a man who they say killed his mother.

Police were called just before 9 a.m. Monday to the 3500 block of South Ledbetter Drive, near West Kiest Boulevard in Dallas’ Mountain Creek area, where a woman had been reported dead inside a vehicle.

When officers arrived, they were told that Rhonda Johnson, 51, had been killed by her son, 34-year-old Johnny Lynn Jones, police said.

Jones was taken to police headquarters to be interviewed by detectives, then booked into the Dallas County jail on a murder charge. His bail had not been set Monday evening, and it was unclear whether he had an attorney.

State records show that Jones was a registered sex offender who had been released from prison in October. He served eight years for indecency with a child by sexual contact in Fisher County, about 200 miles west of Dallas, involving a victim who was 16.

Jones also has been convicted of burglary, evading arrest and forgery, court records show.
