Dallas County reports 2 coronavirus deaths, 102 new cases; Tarrant County adds 5 deaths

Dallas County reported two more COVID-19 deaths and 102 new coronavirus cases Friday.

The latest victims were a Dallas woman in her 50s and a DeSoto woman in her 80s. Both had underlying high-risk health conditions.

County Judge Clay Jenkins said in a written statement that getting vaccinated against the virus is the best choice people can make for themselves and their families.

“Today more than 350 people are fighting COVID as inpatients in North Texas hospitals, so it’s important to remember that the threat is still there,” Jenkins said. “But if you’ve been vaccinated, get out there and enjoy your life.”

Of the new cases, 86 were confirmed and 16 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s overall case total to 303,210, including 260,526 confirmed and 42,684 probable. The death toll is 4,053.

The average number of new daily cases in the county for the last two weeks is 129. For the previous 14-day period, the average was 186.

According to the state, 1,151,035 people in Dallas County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 897,536 — 41.1% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Texas

Across the state, 2,032 more cases were reported Friday, including 1,895 new cases and 137 older ones recently reported by labs.

The state also reported 53 COVID-19 deaths, raising its toll to 50,361.

Of the new cases, 1,411 were confirmed and 484 were probable. Of the older cases, 102 were confirmed and 35 were probable.

The state’s case total is now 2,942,235, including 2,515,922 confirmed and 426,313 probable.

According to the state, 12,638,634 people in Texas have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 10,146,184 — 42.2% of the state’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Tarrant County

Tarrant County reported five deaths and 79 cases Friday.

The latest victims were four Fort Worth residents, a man in his 60s, a woman in her 70s and two men in their 80s; and an Arlington man in his 80s. All five had underlying high-risk health conditions.

Of the new cases, 50 were confirmed and 29 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s case total to 260,643, including 218,175 confirmed and 42,468 probable. The death toll is 3,505.

According to the state, 862,752 people in Tarrant County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 708,144 — 40.7% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Collin County

The state added 17 cases to Collin County’s totals Friday. No additional deaths were reported.

Of the new cases, nine were confirmed and eight were probable. The numbers bring the county’s case total to 91,521, including 75,111 confirmed and 16,410 probable. The death toll is 833.

According to the state, 535,348 people in Collin County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 440,489 — 50.9% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Denton County

Denton County reported four deaths and 26 cases Friday.

The latest victims were two Lewisville residents, a man in his 70s and a woman older than 80; a Bartonville man in his 70s; and a Flower Mound woman in her 70s.

The newly reported cases bring the county’s case total to 76,046, including 55,823 confirmed and 20,223 probable. The death toll is 590.

According to the state, 418,301 people in Denton County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 346,092 — 46.1% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Other counties

The Texas Department of State Health Services has taken over reporting for these other North Texas counties. In some counties, new data may not be reported every day.

The latest numbers are:

  • Rockwall County: 11,665 cases (9,359 confirmed and 2,306 probable), 154 deaths.
  • Kaufman County: 16,246 cases (13,495 confirmed and 2,751 probable), 260 deaths.
  • Ellis County: 23,025 cases (19,046 confirmed and 3,979 probable), 315 deaths.
  • Johnson County: 19,943 cases (16,880 confirmed and 3,063 probable), 368 deaths.
