Flower Mound officers subdue armed man as he’s about to enter fire station, police say

Flower Mound police opened fire at a 42-year-old man who pointed a shotgun at them Saturday morning outside a fire station, but the man was not hit and only minor injuries to the gunman and one officer were reported, according to the department.

Officers were dispatched about 8:30 a.m. on reports of a man pointing a gun at people in the 3100 block of Skillern Boulevard, near Post Oak Park, police said. Once there, they learned that he was outside the town’s Fire Station No. 7 at 2777 Skillem Road.

At the fire station, officers confronted the man as he was trying to enter the building. The man spun around and pointed a shotgun at the officers, and they opened fired at him, but he wasn’t hit, the department said.

Police then tased the man and took him into custody with “only minor injuries,” the department said. The man was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

One officer also suffered “very minor injuries” during a struggle to subdue the man, police spokesman Shane Jennings said.

Police said the man would not be identified until he has been booked into jail. He will face multiple charges yet to be determined, police said.

Flower Mound detectives and the Texas Rangers were investigating the shooting. A heavy police presence was in the area, but authorities said there was no immediate threat to the public.

Earlier this week, three Flower Mound officers were shot while responding to reports of a suicidal person inside a house in the 2900 block of Termaine Drive. All three officers were treated and cleared by medical officials soon after the late Wednesday shooting.

Bryan Hucabee, 60, surrendered Thursday morning and was booked into the Denton County jail on charges of felony aggravated assault against a public servant and aggravated assault with a weapon. His bail was set at $350,000.

“We ask for your patience as we work through a second critical incident in one week,” Flower Mound police said Saturday in a written statement.
