70pc staff in schools, colleges vaccinated: FDE

ISLAMABAD: Over 70 teaching and non-teaching staff in Federal Directorate of Education (FDE)-run schools and colleges have been vaccinated against Covid-19 after the Ministry of Federal Education directed the educational institutions to submit the certificates by June 11.

An official of the FDE said 70.2pc teaching and non-teaching staff in the institutions had been vaccinated. A report has also been sent to the education ministry.

The official said out of the total 11,891 staff members (8,077 teachers and 3,814 non-teaching staff), 8,345 staffers (5,912 teachers and 2,433 non-teaching staff) have been vaccinated.

FDE Director General FDE Dr Ikram Ali Malik said he was hopeful that by Monday the remaining 30pc staffers will also get themselves vaccinated.

“So far, our 70pc staff has been vaccinated. Let me appreciate heads of schools and colleges for their efforts. We have been making efforts to get this exercise completed by Monday,”

he said and added that disciplinary action will be taken against those avoiding vaccination.

Another official said data was being compiled about first and second dose.

“It’s confirmed that 70pc staff has been vaccinated. But it is yet to be checked about the doses. Most of the teachers, who are over 40, got themselves vaccinated twice while during the last one week a large number of teachers got the first dose,” he said.

Meanwhile, a notification issued by the ministry of education on Thursday directed all public and private schools and universities to submit a certificate by June 11 that their staff had been vaccinated.
