Dallas County reports 1 coronavirus death, 82 additional cases

Dallas County reported one more COVID-19 death and 82 new coronavirus cases Friday.

The latest victim was a Grand Prairie woman in her 80s who had underlying high-risk health conditions.

County Judge Clay Jenkins continued to urge residents to get vaccinated.

“The evidence is in: The vaccine is highly effective and safe for everyone,” Jenkins said in a written statement. “If you have any questions, please talk to your doctor or go to a reputable medical site … . Don’t make your decision based on inaccurate rumors or conspiracy theories.”

Of the new cases, 69 were confirmed and 13 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s overall case total to 303,756, including 260,922 confirmed and 42,834 probable. The death toll is 4,070.

The average number of new daily cases in the county for the last two weeks is 99. For the previous 14-day period, the average was 151.

According to the state, 1,177,014 people in Dallas County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 928,373 — 42.6% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Texas

Across the state, 2,762 more cases were reported Friday, including 1,929 new cases and 833 older ones recently reported by labs.

The state also reported 46 COVID-19 deaths, raising its toll to 50,590.

Of the new cases, 1,514 were confirmed and 415 were probable. Of the older cases, 351 were confirmed and 482 were probable.

The state’s case total is now 2,950,622, including 2,522,016 confirmed and 428,606 probable.

According to the state, 12,914,715 people in Texas have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 10,454,433 — 43.4% of the state’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Tarrant County

Tarrant County reported two deaths and 131 cases Friday.

The latest victims were an Everman woman in her 20s and a Saginaw man in his 80s. Both had underlying high-risk health conditions.

Of the new cases, 57 were confirmed and 74 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s case total to 261,124, including 218,476 confirmed and 42,648 probable. The death toll is 3,517.

According to the state, 881,984 people in Tarrant County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 730,969 — 42.0% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Collin County

The state did not add any deaths or cases to Collin County’s totals Friday.

The county’s case total is 91,521, including 75,111 confirmed and 16,410 probable. The death toll is 835.

According to the state, 546,964 people in Collin County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 454,539 — 52.5% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Denton County

Denton County reported 42 cases Friday. No additional deaths were reported.

The newly reported cases bring the county’s case total to 76,279, including 55,941 confirmed and 20,338 probable. The death toll is 596.

According to the state, 427,838 people in Denton County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 357,069 — 47.6% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Other counties

The Texas Department of State Health Services has taken over reporting for these other North Texas counties. In some counties, new data may not be reported every day.

The latest numbers are:

  • Rockwall County: 11,696 cases (9,375 confirmed and 2,321 probable), 156 deaths.
  • Kaufman County: 16,311 cases (13,531 confirmed and 2,780 probable), 261 deaths.
  • Ellis County: 23,088 cases (19,085 confirmed and 4,003 probable), 319 deaths.
  • Johnson County: 19,991 cases (16,907 confirmed and 3,084 probable), 370 deaths.
