No injuries reported after shots fired outside Town East Mall in Mesquite, police say

Shots were fired outside Town East Mall on Thursday afternoon but no injuries were reported, Mesquite police said.

Police said the gunfire occurred in a parking lot on the west side of the mall about 4:20 p.m.

Officers working nearby on an unrelated investigation responded after hearing the gunfire and took two men and a woman into custody, police said. They also recovered a rifle and a handgun.

Police said it appeared that several people fired guns during the incident. There were no immediate reports of injuries, but several vehicles were struck.

The three suspects were identified Friday as Devante Terrell Hernandez, Tavion E. Smith and Ari Jhonae Lashay Williams. All three remained in custody at the Mesquite jail.

Hernandez, who faces five counts of deadly conduct as well as two drug charges, had bail set at $48,500. Smith faces five counts of deadly conduct and has bail of $37,500. Williams was arrested on charges of drug possession and unlawful carrying of a weapon and has bail of $2,500.

The incident came three days after a scare at NorthPark Center in Dallas that turned out to be the echoing sound of a man banging a skateboard on the floor of the food court.
