Dallas man sentenced to 85 years for breaking into Lake Highlands apartment to assault 3 girls

A man convicted of breaking into a Lake Highlands apartment in 2019 to sexually assault three children has been sentenced to 85 years in prison.

A Dallas County jury found 36-year-old Oscar King guilty of three felony charges on Thursday: one count of sexual assault of a child and two counts of burglary of a habitation with the intent to commit a sex crime. He was sentenced Friday.

King, a Dallas resident, was accused of breaking into the bedroom of three girls — 10, 12 and 13 years old — through an unlocked window and sexually assaulting them on March 27, 2019. Authorities said he threatened to harm their family during the assault.

King jumped out the window after the girls started screaming and punching him, according to the Dallas County district attorney’s office, but he was arrested later that day.

The apartment manager told police about a man who frequented the complex in a white Ford Mustang, the district attorney’s office said. The manager gave police a photo of the man, whom authorities identified as King.

Police said forensic evidence linked King to the attack and that his palm prints were found inside the girls’ room.

Prosecutor Alex Dobiyanski called the verdict “just and right.”

“This predator is a thief of innocence and must now face the consequences of putting those children through unimaginable horrors for the next 85 years of his life,” she said.

The district attorney’s office noted that the girls did not deliver victim impact statements following the trial because they never wanted to see King again.

King’s attorney, Tom Cox, said he respected the decision of the jury and the court but thought that the sentence was excessive.

Cox, who claimed there were “a lot of inconsistencies with the state’s evidence,” said he had entered a motion for retrial and plans to appeal the decision to the “highest level possible” if that motion is denied.
