DeSoto teen faces manslaughter charge after crash that killed Dallas ISD mentor

A DeSoto teenager has been arrested on a manslaughter charge after a high-speed crash earlier this month that killed a Dallas ISD mentor.

Norkendric Jackson, 17, was taken into custody at his home Tuesday morning in connection with the death of 42-year-old Hanan Ali-Lacy. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.

Police said Jackson more than 90 mph on West Pleasant Run Road the night of June 6 when he crashed into a vehicle driven by Ali-Lacy at Ray Andra Drive.

A balloon release ceremony last week at Kimball High School honored Ali-Lacy, who helped high-schoolers prepare for college.

“This is so beautiful,” said her mother, Alicia Ward. “These students are here, and we’re all grieving, but they’re celebrating her life. They’re celebrating her legacy.”

Jackson was being held in the Dallas County jail Tuesday. His bail had not been set.
