Arlington’s latest COVID-19 numbers, plus other coronavirus updates

Arlington has recorded 44,236 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, according to the Tarrant County Public Health Department.

The city has also had 690 deaths and 43,217 recoveries. Currently, 21 Arlington residents are hospitalized with the virus, according to the city.

The numbers bring the county’s case total to 262,253 — 219,206 confirmed and 43,047 probable. The death toll is 3,545.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 vaccinations are still continuing, with all adults now eligible to receive a vaccine and children 12 to 15 now eligible to get Pfizer’s vaccine.

According to the state, 912,543 people in Tarrant County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 785,867 — 45.2% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Vaccines

A new walk-in COVID-19 vaccination is open at The University of Texas at Arlington.

Run by Tarrant County and The University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, the new site aims to expand vaccine access to the southeast portion of the county and UTA’s 40,000 students. People can walk in to receive a dose or choose the day and time of their appointment online.

UTA’s site is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Physical Education Building, 801 W. Greek Row Dr. The university is offering free parking adjacent to the gym.

Education

Arlington ISD has reported a total of 2,999 positive COVID-19 cases since returning to school Sept. 28. As of May 18, there were 17 active cases, one staff and 16 students.

The district has established a student counseling services hotline. Students can call 682-867-9416 to be connected with school counselors to discuss stress, anxiety or other issues. It is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Parents can call 682-867-9417 to talk with district staff members who can help find resources such as food, clothing, shelter and transportation.

The University of Texas at Arlington has had 469 total positive coronavirus cases since March 2020.
