Murder suspect left behind fake money, phones at scene of robbery set up as drug deal, police say

Police say a 22-year-old man set up a robbery during a drug deal in Old East Dallas that left an 18-year-old man dead and a woman wounded — but left behind enough evidence to track him down.

Tyle Rasheed Ingram faces a charge of capital murder in the slaying of Kobe Mascorro.

Police were called about 10 p.m. May 29 to the 1300 block of South Barry Avenue, near East Grand Avenue, where they found Mascorro shot inside his car. He was pronounced dead in the vehicle.

A female passenger also had been shot but her wounds weren’t life threatening.

In an arrest-warrant affidavit, police wrote that the female victim told detectives that she had set up the sale of half a pound of Mascorro’s marijuana through Instagram and that the buyer told them to meet him on South Barry Avenue.

When they arrived, that man got in the backseat of the vehicle and showed them a large amount of money while inspecting the pot. A second man then walked up to the car and shot Mascorro, the affidavit says.

The man in the backseat tried to get out of the vehicle, but the back doors were child-locked. He eventually climbed over Mascorro’s body in the front passenger seat and ran off with the marijuana, according to the affidavit.

Police said the man left behind his sandals, two cellphones and seven fake $100 bills that had “play money” printed on them.

The woman showed detectives the Instagram account of the buyer, and police said that that account and the cellphones abandoned in the car belonged to Ingram.

Ingram was arrested Monday and remained in custody at the Dallas County jail, with bail set at $500,000.

Police did not say whether they had identified a second suspect in the shooting.
