Storms return late Friday with even more over the holiday weekend

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Another wet and stormy weather pattern is almost upon us.

A front blowing into Texas on Friday will push a broken line of showers and thunderstorms toward Houston late Friday. The morning should be mostly rain-free with temperatures bottoming out in the mid 70s. By the afternoon it will be in the lower 90s with storm clouds increasing on the northern horizon.

These storms could bring gusty winds over 40 mph, frequent lightning, and briefly heavy rain. While we cannot rule out a rogue severe thunderstorm, severe weather is unlikely.

Storms chances will climb even more over the weekend as the weak front stalls out just to our north.

When is it most likely to rain over the July 4th weekend?

Your chance of rain is 70% for both Saturday and Sunday, but most of that rain will fall during the daylight hours between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The storms should fizzle by evening both days. That means by firework time the sky should be dry but the ground will likely be wet.

How long will this wet weather pattern stick around?
Rain chances will peak on Monday and Tuesday when deep tropical moisture arrives, but the rain chances will remain elevated for most of next week.

How much rain can we expect?
Over the next 7 days, most of us will pick up 3-6″ of rain, but there is the potential for even more in isolated spots.
