Covid-19 positivity jumps to 7.1pc in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The capital saw an increase in the Covid-19 positivity ratio as it jumped to 7.1pc on Friday whereas the Delta variant has also been detected in patients who were diagnosed with the disease.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (East) Babar Sahib Din when contacted, confirmed that the Delta variant was traced among positive cases, however, the total number of people who contracted this variant is still not known.

Keeping in view, spread of this variant, strict compliance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) will be enforced in the city, the ADC said, adding SOPs will be implemented particularly in marriage halls and restaurants.

District Health Officer Dr Zaeem Zia confirmed spread of the variant in the capital, adding, the total number of people who were diagnosed with this variant is still not available with the District Health Office.

Delta variant detected in most positive patients, officials say

Dr Zia said that a strict advisory has been issued to prevent spread of the Delta variant and an advisory for cattle markets established for the sale of sacrificial animals will also be issued.

Meanwhile, the Covid-19 positivity rate in the capital jumped to 7.1pc. One patient died of the disease and 141 new cases surfaced.

Officials of the capital administration said that the death of a male patient, in the age group of 30-39 was reported. The deceased was a resident of Alipur.

During the last 24 hours, 1,978 tests were conducted and out of the total 92 males and 49 females were tested positive, they said.

They said 33 cases were reported in the age group of 30-39, followed by 31 in 20-29, 24 in 40-49, 14 in 10-19, 12 in 60-69, 11 in 0-9, 10 in 50-59 and three each in 70-79, and 80 and above.

Likewise, 10 cases were reported from Lohi Bher, followed by nine from Bhara Kahu, eight from G-11, seven each from Tarlai, I-8, six each from Khanna, F-7, five from I-10, four each from G-10, Chak Shahzad, three each from F-11, Sohan, Rawat, G-8, Alipur, G-13, F-6, I-9, G-14, two each from F-8, Koral, Bari Imam, Jangi Syedan, and one each from G-9, G-7, Sihala, G-15, H-13, H-8, and Pind Begwal.

Rawalpindi

The number of Covid-19 patients increased in the district on Friday as 60 people tested positive and nine patients were discharged from the hospital after recovering from the disease during the last 24 hours.

In Rawalpindi district, there are 397 active patients. As many as 96 patients are in hospitals including 21 arrived from other districts and 301 patients are home isolated.

As many as 15 patients are from cantonment areas, 27 each from Potohar Town and nine from Rawal Town respectively. Five patients arrived from Gujar Khan and one from Kahuta. Seven patients were admitted at Holy Family Hospital, nine at Benazir Bhutto Hospital, 13 at Rawalpindi Institute of Urology and seven at Fauji Foundation Hospital.

There is one patient on a ventilator in Rawalpindi, 26 are on oxygen support and nine are stable.
